Hey-ho, everyone! First of all, I apologize for lacking of updates lately, as we have been pretty busy with all the travels and family stuffs. So many things to write and I don’t even know where to start! *sweat*
This time I am gonna write about a not-so-new place which I am sure is already familiar with foodies in Jakarta. Yes, it is Brownbag. Both I and Mr. K love spending our quality time over good brunch, and Brownbag is definitely one of the best options to have one. Brownbag already has 2 outlets in Jakarta: in Menteng and Kemang, and this review is about the outlet in Kemang.
This outlet in Kemang is located on the second floor of Plaza Adorama building, where few restaurants, bakery, and shops also exist. The building itself has its own parking space just in front and another one in the basement. I think it’s very convenient judging from how difficult it is to find parking space in some of the restaurants in Kemang area. Brownbag is accessible through the stairs in the first floor and also elevator that goes all the way to basement.
On the second floor, we can see that Brownbag occupies 2 different areas: the bigger one is located inside (no smoking area), and another smaller room for smoking area, which has a direct access to natural light. The interior is dominated with simple yet warm colors, and minimum decorations are enough to beautify the rooms.
Brownbag is a Deli & Restaurant, and it’s quite famous for its sandwiches so it’s definitely a MUST order items when we visit this place. Beside sandwiches, they also have starters and salads, main courses, and desserts.
Prices for F&B range from IDR 11,000 to 190,000.
Amor De Nachos IDR 45,000
Combination of nacho chips topped with double cheese, choice of Bolognese/Napoletan sauce, with guacamole and tomato salsa.
For a starter, this plate of nachos was pleasant enough for me. The chips were crispy and light, the tomato salsa was nothing but fresh. The others? Nothing special, but I must say: good attempt.
Steak Sandwich IDR 72,000
Signature sub roll filled with Brownbag’s special and tender Australian beef steak, tasty cheese and fresh selection of premium vegetables.
They have so many selections for the sandwich menu that I got lost sometimes. The steak sandwich is the best option if you like meat, and wanna try their signature. The bread had great texture and beautifully filled with colorful ingredients like lettuce, onions, tomato, cheese, and of course the meat. The meat itself was cut thickly, and nicely cooked. I love how it looked medium-well but the consistency was still soft and easy to eat. I think this is a nice choice to eat during breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Provincial Roasted Chicken IDR 79,000
Half-roasted chicken with mashed potato, sauteed vegetable and special gravy.
This dish goes through various cooking steps, slightly smoked and slow-roasted for up to 3 hours to make it succulent and flavorful. Yet, I found the chicken a bit too dry for my liking (I was expecting something juicier based on the description in the menu), and the flavor didn’t come out as much as I expected. In fact, the chicken itself tasted quite bland and the light, thin special gravy didn’t help much either. I don’t know if I was just unlucky or what, but if you happen to feel the same way when you eat this, I would suggest asking the waiter some salt and pepper, Tabasco or just simple chili sauce will do.
Bubbly Fish IDR 30,000
The dessert was just actually the fish ice cream like we can find in supermarket, if you know what I mean. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t good, though! Presentation was cute but I wish they put more effort creating something more original rather than using a ready-stock product like this.
