Hello, TOSKA!

TOSKA is a Juice & Coffee shop I found by coincidence when strolling around the latest growing area in West Jakarta, Citra Garden City. In the last few weeks, I had been planning to visit this area because of some cute food photos I saw on Instagram, and finally I was there!

The whole area is actually more into a housing complex, it reminds me a lot to Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area back in old days, and even the ruko (house offices) area is actually quite similar. This particular (more) popular area for creative eating places and cafes are located inside the Citra Garden City complex, especially the 6th block or what they prefer to call “Sixth Avenue”.

TOSKA is actually the 4th stop of the day (LOL!) but since I love the place the most, I decided to blog about it first. As its name suggests, the cafe is decorated with touches of tosca green color, which gives a young, vibrant, and chic looks to the whole place. I love how they don’t try to fulfill the area with too many tables and give a clear, spacious feeling instead. It almost looks like a stylish warehouse and is a type of place that will definitely make you feel comfortable enough to bring your laptop and spend hours there.

There is a nice mural on a side of the wall saying “Juice Cycle” with a tosca painted bicycle parked in front of it. Later I just found out that you can actually ride on the bicycle and blend your own drinks! How cute is that? As you can see below, there is a blender attached to the bicycle and once you push the pedal to propel it, the blender will work its job. It’s always nice to be involved in the process, no? XD

For the menu, TOSKA offers selections of cold-pressed juices, smoothies, coffee, also some food like snack bites and panini (sandwiches). The price range is only IDR 15,000 to 38,000, don’t you think it’s like, super affordable?

Let’s begin with their juices first. All the juices are claimed to be made from natural veggies and fruits, with no additional preservatives, flavors, sugar or any other sweeteners. I can see clearly that they are quite serious with the healthy stuffs concept, and better yet, there are many selections of cold-pressed juices and smoothies that we can choose according to our likings. My tip is, wait until you see the names, creatively done!

HONEY I DEW IDR 30,000
Muscle Builder. Diet Balancing. Anti-oxidizing.
A mixture of honeydew, pear, Romaine lettuce, and mint.
Refreshing combination but not exactly my favorite. The mint overpowered the weaker tastes of other ingredients and created a not-so-well chemistry with the honeydew.

They use WORCAS coffee, a coffee roaster company in Indonesia which produces Indonesian Arabica and Robusta coffee beans. Honestly, this is not a familiar name to me so I was excited to try it. For the manual brew, there are some beans available: Mandheling Sumatra, Toraja, Gayo, Kintamani, and Papua; using V60 or Kalita method (IDR 25,000) or Luwak coffee with Siphon (IDR 70,000).

Manual Brew Papua IDR 25,000

Actually I had many not-so-good experience with Papua beans because I usually find it spicy and a bit harsh in the throat. In some shops, I even found acidic ones and I could never really enjoyed it. FYI, this is Mr. K’s order so I wasn’t expecting anything. Although they offer 2 filters for manual brew (V60 and Kalita), V60 one wasn’t available that time so he had no other choice but Kalita. The result was amazingly good Papua coffee: mild, clean, and rather sweet coffee with an aromatic finish. I would even say that kids also can enjoy this without additional sugar or sweetener.

Cappuccino IDR 25,000

A mandatory order whenever I visit a coffee shop, this cappuccino definitely didn’t disappoint. Smooth and enjoyable to the last gulp!

S(Mocking) IDR 24,000

Caramelized onion, red bell pepper, Champignon mushroom, head lettuce and smoked “ham” in a wrap.

The panini comes in selections of savory or sweet fillings, and I opted for savory one. This is the most recommended one and seems to be one of the best-selling panini menu in TOSKA. Interestingly, they substitute the so-called “ham” with soy protein, and trust me, I would have never known that if I didn’t read the menu.

The panini is good, a bit too crispy for my liking, but as a whole, it’s good, especially if you love your sandwiches to be complimented with lots and lots of melted cheese! It comes with homemade potato chips which are IMHO, much much better than the regular fries.

In the nutshell, TOSKA is not just another fancy coffee shop in the neighborhood, but I am sure if it sticks well to its health-conscious concept, it is promising road for them to advance further in the future. It just needs more recognition and I can expect that in no time, words will spread and people will start visiting. If you happen to be in the area, or are planning to visit this growing area of West Jakarta, don’t forget to swing by!
