Amazing to see the crowds when we visited this place because this restaurant is not located on the main street of Bangkok, near Unico Grande Golf course, so you can probably imagine that the area is not really like the bustling city neighborhood or something.Kai Yang Sua Yai means Big Tiger Grilled Chicken, is actually a renowned brand in Bangkok because they have some outlets as well beside this, and seems quite popular among locals. The outlet here has a parking space, and the area is divided into indoor and outdoor seating areas. Compared to the Praram 9 Kai Yang, this looks much better and “civilized”, better yet, the indoor area is completed with air conditioners.
Khao Niao THB 25
Restaurants like this usually have the rice in the sticky rice form, served in some kind of bamboo pot. The sticky rice is hard and sticky, but also dry so it’s easy to eat with hand.
Thai Papaya Salad THB 60
Or Som Tum Thai, this is my ultimate favorite and I must say this is the second best in town, while the best is still the one made by my mother-in-law. The ingredients were fresh but not watery, and the lime was fragrant and perfect.
We were told that Thai loves putting the noodle into their papaya salad and eat them together. It was good but I prefer eating it just like that or with rice.
Spicy Mixed Fruit Salad THB 90
There are so many types of salad here, and we couldn’t resist trying the mixed fruit one. The salad was generously mixed with various fruits, and don’t forget the cashew nuts! I could go nuts just eating all these refreshing and delicious salads. XD Recommended to try if you want something different from typical Thai papaya salad.
Grilled Chicken Half THB 100
So this is the specialty of the restaurant, and I understood why many people were there. The chicken was perfectly grilled without losing its juice, and the succulent meat was tasty and flavorful even without using the dipping sauce. YUM!
Ko Mu Yang (Grilled Pork Neck) THB 110
Another favorite! Mouth-watering pork neck served with spicy, sweet, and sour dipping sauce. Best eaten with basil leaves to give the beautiful aroma. MUST TRY.
Sai Krok Isan (Thai Fermented Sausage) THB 100
This fermented sausages are originated from northeastern Thai province, and are commonly found in this kind of restaurants. I really like the sweet flavor of these sausages combined with amazing crunchy texture!
Mr. K taught me how to eat this the right way: wrap the sausages in the cabbage, put the leaves, garlic, nuts, chili and everything you want, and eat it up! It tastes even better that way. XD
Nam Kang Sai (Thai Mixed Ice) THB 45
Thai Mixed Ice can’t be missed if you’re looking for dessert. Ours was the one with red beans and some kind of Chinese fruits, tasted sweet, salty and sour. Refreshing!
For 4 person, our total bill was only THB 675 (USD 18.72 / IDR 255,000) and we were more than happy to be able to experience authentic Eastern Thai cuisine like these. This is definitely a place that I will revisit, as they have really extensive selection of dishes and I can’t wait to try more!
