Hello, guys! Some of you have probably known from our Instagram that we just came back from Bangkok, Thailand. Honestly, we felt totally refreshed being away from heavy traffic in Jakarta and also for the opportunity to eat various authentic Thai cuisine again after such a long time!

This time we are going to share about this 3 months old cafe which is *still* very trending in Bangkok right now, and well accepted by both locals and foreigners as well. It’s hard not to notice the eye-catching red brick walls and it was really a love at the first sight. The building looks small from outside but very inviting, except that finding a place to park our car was a bit tricky. But anyway, Toby’s can also be reached by 15 minutes walk from BTS Thong Lor station.

It was a Thursday noon when we arrived and we saw the crowds from the street, and we almost didn’t stop by because I honestly really hate being in waiting list only for getting a table at a restaurant. In the end, we found a parking spot somewhere nearby and walked to this cafe, only to find out that it was full and we had to wait for a while to be seated. We waited outside, where few round tables and crate seats are available.

After waiting for more than 20 minutes, finally we got a table, a communal one, which we had to share with other 3 groups of strangers. Fine, as long as we got a table, right? #rolleyes

Toby’s offers all-day Australian-style breakfast and coffee, which are curated in a short and simple menu. The seasonal coffee blend is made from coffee beans from Ethiopia, Honduras, and Thailand, and exclusively made for this cafe, so it’s safe to say that you won’t find it anywhere else in the world.

If you’re more into tea than coffee, make sure to check their special blend tea which you can sample on the counter near the entrance.

Favorite spot in Toby’s is definitely this wooden deck with comfy bed look-alike sofa with beautiful greens and enough natural light from the window. Nothing is better than this spot to take photos, be it food or OOTD pics, but since there were only 2 of us, we couldn’t take that spot. 🙁 Perhaps we should have come earlier before it got crowded.

Although there are so many fancy restaurants/cafes in Jakarta, there’s something about Toby’s that brings a quiet, familiar feeling for me, as weird as it might sound because the place was super crowded that time. I just felt very comfortable being there, which is not so usual because, hello, we were sharing table with strangers and I still could feel that way? That’s totally unbelievable.

Salted Caramel Milk Shake THB 120

We are not fans of milk shakes but salted caramel, YES! The saltiness was really emphasized here, so the drink basically dominated by salty flavor, with a hint of sweetness and fragrance from the caramel. Our prediction is that Indonesians might prefer the saltiness to be toned down a bit, but we loved it this way.

Breakfast Board THB 350

2 eggs any style, smoked ham, cured salmon, avocado, fresh berries, sourdough, tomato salsa

Picked sunny side up for the eggs, couldn’t be happier. Ingredients were fresh and tasty, especially the cured salmon and tomato salsa! They are pretty serious with the ingredients, for example, the avocados are used a lot in various dishes and they are imported from New Zealand. The sourdough is from Conkey’s, an Australian bakery located in Ekamai. A fulfilling dish which can be shared for two.

Presentation was pretty, although I was hoping for this dish to be served on a wooden board or something, but well.

Dark Choc Brownie Affogato THB 170

Brownie, vanilla ice cream, marshmallow, served with espresso shot. Simply delicious. The brownie was dense and almost sticky, nicely accompanied with the ice cream and hot espresso. It was a mix of bitter and sweet taste, only our experience was purely sweet!

We were glad we decided to stop by and try dining at Toby’s. We heard that so many cafes like this are opening in Bangkok in the past few years and we will gladly visit them one by one! Last but not least, this is probably not a place we will come back in the near future (unless they add more menu), but we really recommend this for you who are into beautiful cafe with decent food and healthy concept. Thanks for reading!
