Another thing that I enjoy doing beside trying new food and restaurants is having a good time in hotels even for one-night stay inside the town. I know I am very blessed to be living in a very comfortable house which is already more than enough for my well-being, but sometimes, I go for staycation in hotels for leisure. During my stay in Bali last year, I stayed in some private villas with private swimming pool inside, and that’s probably the thing that I miss the most from living in Bali! In Jakarta, it’s almost impossible to find that kind of villas/resort, so I think I should be happy enough with the luxurious hotels for staycation. XD

This time I am gonna write about my staycation in one of my favorite hotels in Jakarta, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, which is located in Mega Kuningan area. FYI, there are 2 The Ritz-Carlton hotels in Jakarta (another one in Sudirman CBD area), but although the Kuningan one is older, somehow I prefer that one more as it’s more familiar and perfect for a staycation. The Mega Kuningan area is also fulfilled by office buildings but the hotel is located inside the 5 stars hotel complex so it is very quiet and comfortable.

History

The history of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. originates with The Ritz-Carlton, Boston. The standards of service, dining and facilities of this Boston landmark serve as a benchmark for all Ritz-Carlton hotels and resorts worldwide.
The legacy of The Ritz-Carlton, Boston begins with the celebrated hotelier Cesar Ritz, the “king of hoteliers and hotelier to kings.” His philosophy of service and innovations redefined the luxury hotel experience in Europe through his management of The Ritz Paris and The Carlton in London.
The Ritz-Carlton, Boston revolutionized hospitality in America by creating luxury in a hotel setting:
  • Private bath in each guest room
  • Lighter fabrics in the guest room to allow for more thorough washing
  • White tie and apron uniforms for the waitstaff, black tie for the Maitre d’ and morning suits for all other staff, conducive to a formal, professional appearance
  • Extensive fresh flowers throughout the public areas
  • A la carte dining, providing choices for diners
  • Gourmet cuisine, utilizing the genius and cooking methods of Auguste Escoffier
  • Intimate, smaller lobbies for a more personalized guest experience
Cesar Ritz died in 1918 but his wife Marie continued the expansion of hotels bearing his name.  In the United States, The Ritz-Carlton Investing Company was established by Albert Keller who bought and franchised the name.  In 1927 The Ritz-Carlton, Boston, opened and other hotels followed in New York (at Madison and 54th), PhiladelphiaPittsburghAtlantic City and Boca Raton.  However, by 1940 none of the hotels were operating except The Ritz-Carlton, Boston. The hotel embodies the vision of Cesar Ritz, Yankee ingenuity and Boston social sensibilities.

The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan features:

  • 333 luxurious accommodations including one Presidential Suite, three Ritz-Carlton Suites, 31 Mayfair Suites, two Grand Spa Terrace Villas, 296 spacious guest rooms and club level rooms.
  • A variety of world-class dining options
  • The Ritz-Carlton Spa and health club featuring 19 treatment rooms, pools and state-of-the-art fitness center
  • Complimentary wired and wireless Internet in guest rooms
  • Complimentary wireless Internet in restaurants, health club, spa, swimming pool, banquet rooms for guests and public visitors

This post about my stay last June (I know, I know!) and I got Grand Business Room with rate of USD 260/night (tax included, USD 1 = IDR 12K) and if you think that it’s not worth it, hold on and keep reading 😉

First of all, the room is indeed grand and spacious, about 680 square feet (or 63 sqm), where we can choose between 1 King-sized bed or 2 double beds. I opted for 2 double beds because that’s what I always choose whenever I stay here. There is also a sofa, coffee table, and a recliner too. Everything is so nicely put that despite of all the furniture, the room still feels big and spacious. Oh, have I told you that these rooms come with 55-inch LED screen television, complete with cable TV programs?

Now, this is even better! I seriously love this hotel room because of its grand and super luxurious bathroom. There are shower box and bath tub, also double sinks so we don’t have to fight over it in the morning, LOL! Also, the bath tub is the coolest part because it is located near the glass window overlooking the city. Conveniently enough, the curtain is controlled by automatic switch, which I think pretty cool. XD

As for the amenities, The Ritz-Carlton hotels use Asprey products, which is a renowned British brand that has been existing for more than 225 years. Their amenities products can be purchased in The Ritz-Carlton shop too, and a soap bar costs around USD 20, which shows how luxurious these things can be. Asprey itself is more popularly known as brand of fine jewelry, watches, leather products and so on, but for sure, their products are top notch products and show real craftsmanship that is still maintained even until now.

I really enjoy my stay at The Ritz-Carlton Mega Kuningan everytime. The bed is thick and soft, the pillows are heavenly good, it feels like I am sleeping on clouds or something. The room is always clean and beautifully made, and the service is excellent. Check-in, check-out, and room service are always fast and polite, staffs are friendly and helpful. I really recommend this hotel and with all the experiences I have, it is not even weird if I say that the rate is considerably low! You get more than what you pay for, and that is the most important thing 🙂
