FAT STRAW finally opens in South Jakarta, YAY!
Heard about this 2 weeks ago when it was just opened for real in Gandaria City, but I just had the chance to visit yesterday after watching Hercules (BTW, it’s good because it’s funny and not too serious!). The first outlet is located at Kelapa Gading area, and since I only occasionally go around there, I had never really had any chance to visit.

Fat Straw is yet another chain selling bubble tea drinks but the difference is that they claim to serve the original honey boba, which got me curious all these times. Rather than using sweetened sugar, they use honey as sweetener so in other words, it can be considered more healthy. The outlet in Gandaria City is located at the Ground Floor, just beside Tous Les Jours and opposite to Chung Gi Wa. The place is not big but definitely hard to miss because of its fancy and yellow-ish theme, as the decorations (including tables) are made in beehives’ hexagonal shapes, cute! And for non-smokers, good news, no smoking area is available in the inner or outer seating areas.

Like typical bubble drink stores, the variety of drinks is quite plenty, from tea, milk tea, fruit tea, smoothies, slush, coffee, you name it. Other than these drinks, there is also selection of finger food such as the infamous Popcorn Chicken, sweet treats like Brick Toasts, heavier meals like rice set, and also dessert bowls. I didn’t try all of them this time because initially I was going to attend a food tasting event afterwards, but next time I will definitely go back and try other menu!
Ice Milk Drink Strawberry Pudding with Honey Boba IDR 28K
I always ask for the recommendations from the staff whenever I go to bubble drink stores, and this one was not an exception. Ordered this just because the cashier said that it’s one of their best-selling menu, and needless to say, I fell in love right away to the fat, short glass, which is probably their signature cup. As the name suggests, it was actually an ice milk drink, blended ice to be exact, with strawberry syrup/jam that was poured in separately so make sure to shake it well before you drink. There was chunks of soft puddings and the honey boba inside, I loved the pudding so much! The honey boba tasted very good, you can immediately tell that they are indeed made from honey, but consistency-wise, not really my favorite. Of course I enjoyed the chewiness but I found it too dry and hard. However, the whole drink itself was quite good, although I probably won’t order this again in the future.

Peach Milk Tea + Honey Boba IDR 24K
Always, always love milk tea, and I usually prefer citrusy fruit to go along with it. Peach is always great to be paired with milk tea and this one was perfect. The peach tasted so refreshing and the honey boba just complimented everything. Loved the combination of peach and honey!

Popcorn Chicken IDR 32K
The most significant thing about these chicken was its aromatic flavor, thanks to the basil leaves. I would say that I enjoyed munching on them but definitely is not the best of its kind. The chicken was nicely deep-fried creating in a very crunchy popcorn chicken, yet I think that the amount of flour used for batter was probably too much. Not that I am complaining, though.

Brick Toast Matcha Cream IDR 26K + additional Green Tea Ice Cream IDR 6K
Didn’t expect that the brick toast really looked like a “brick”, it was so thick! Chose matcha cream as the topping because Mr. K eats all matcha-related stuffs like there is no tomorrow, LOL! The toast was purrrfect!! Thick and chewy, yet soft enough to be cut easily, I simple love it. The matcha cream was spread sooo generously on top of the toast, with super thick consistency, just like glue. Sweet and fragrant, makes it so hard to stop eating. I was glad I listened to the cashier’s suggestion to add a scoop of green tea ice cream on top, it just added the fun to the whole toast. Definitely will come back and try more flavors of this brick toast!

Really enjoyed my visit to Fat Straw, glad that it is now in South already! Wish you all the best and hope to be back real soon!
