Hey all, it’s finally the last day of 2015 and we can’t wait to reveal our TOP 10 RESTAURANTS IN JAKARTA from all the restaurants we visited this year! It’s almost like a dream that this year has finally come to end because time surely flies so fast. 2015 has been really good for us, maybe we were not really active posting new entries like we did in 2014, but that doesn’t mean that our passion towards food have decreased. We still have so many photos waiting to be shared but it all depends on me to write, because I am such a moody writer I only write when I want to. XD

To keep the long story short, these is our list (in random order) and if you haven’t visited any of them yet, please do soon, okay? 🙂

TONTOKI 屯登木

Although I said the list is in random order, hands down this is our #1 favorite of the year. Tontoki is the newest baby of Kawano Group, specializes in pork dishes, literally, and if you are curious about Okinawan cuisine, here is the only place in Jakarta. Recommended dishes are Rafute (IDR 58K), Okinawan-style stewed pork belly dish; and Tontoki Don (IDR 42K), a rice bowl topped with generous serving of grilled pork.

Oh yes, did I mention that the place is “very Japanese”? Minimal lighting, low ceiling, tatami rooms, you name it.

PUBLIK MARKETTE

This is probably ISMAYA Group’s best F&B chain up-to-date, and I hope this won’t be the last one. Publik Markette has an awesome place to begin with, and a nice concept of Food Gallery, where you can see the food a la canteen style, and order them right away. The best thing about this place is that the menu keeps rotating everyday so you can try various cooking styles of the same ingredients without getting bored.

TAKUMI ROBATA & SUSHI

This premium Japanese restaurant located inside the prestigious Senayan National Golf Club, specializes in Hokkaido-style Robatayaki, in which items of food on skewers are slow frilled over hot charcoal in a sand pit. Their ingredients are mostly flown directly from Tsukiji Fish Market in Japan so you can find even the rarest types of fishes here (seasonal). If you’re not in mood for robatayaki, the menu covers selection of Japanese cuisine like rice bowls, noodle and even sushi. Do try their omakase session as well if you want your chef to do the picking for you!

LEWIS & CARROLL

Relatively new in town, this tea lounge quickly takes Jakartans’ attentions and is becoming one of most talked spot. Here you can find various kinds of tea from all over the world brewed with USD 15,000 worth of Alpha Dominche Steampunk machine, accompanied with selection of healthy dishes that taste delicious, too. If you happen to enjoy yoga, there is a yoga place in the same building that looks promising.

YAMATOTEN ABURA SOBA

Abura Soba is probably one of the “newcomers” this year that has been going pretty well since its opening. While there are so many new joints opened and closed this year, this shop always seems to be crowded and favored by Indonesians. This springy noodle is eaten with vinegar and chili oil, the first glance at it will make your mouth waters, and once you dig in, it’s difficult to stop. Try by yourself and you’ll understand.

CARIBOU COFFEE

This newly-opened coffee joint in Senopati is originated from Minnesota, USA, and offers selection of Arabica coffee and various drinks like chocolate and tea. Don’t miss the Personalized Brew Bar section where you can have the beans brewed the best way it suits you. We fell in love to the place at the first sight, maybe you will, too.

RAMEN ORENCHI

With so many ramen shops in Jakarta, it’s quite challenging to open a new one, right? This Ramen Orenchi is not a franchise nor branded ramen joint coming from Japan but it doesn’t mean it’s not worth visiting. The chef is Japanese and very precise about doing his ramen right, which we can tell from the consistency based on our many visits this year. If you eat pork, this place is heaven. If you’re looking for something other than ramen, they also have rice bowls and bento set menu that come in big portions. Itadakimasu!

THE CUBBYHOLE AT TEMPLE TREES

This humble eatery connected to home and fashion accessories shop “Temple Trees” in Senopati area is easy to miss but we think it perfectly fits into our best 10 restaurants of 2015. The place is decorated nicely but not too much, and the food have originality that reminded us of home cooking. If you’re looking for a place with comfort, decent food, and.. a shop just right above (XD), this is definitely for you.

CHICORY EUROPEAN PATISSERIE

This small and humble shop is truly a hard-to-find treasure for people in Jakarta who are longing for authentic European patisserie in the neighborhood. As for now, although it’s not categorized as one of the “it” places, it always amazes me to see the place is never empty and sometimes it’s difficult to get a table. Chicory also doesn’t accept table reservation so if you want to secure a table, come as early as possible. As the old saying says, the early bird gets the worm!

WARUNG SANGRAI

A place dedicated for quails, Warung Sangrai offers local quails as well as French quails. The food are consistently good, you can adjust the spiciness level, and to top it all, they are very cheap! I love this place for a quick Indonesian food fix and it never disappoints.

So, those are our TOP 10 for 2015 and we have to say that we really had a blast this year visiting so many good restaurants! There are some others that we visited very often but didn’t make it to the list because eventually we only could pick the TOP 10! Anyway, let’s hope for the better 2016 and we are looking forward to visit more and more places next year. Thanks for reading!
